RICE
CREEK COMMUNITY
The hint of the existence of a Rice Creek
Community Cemetery came in the form of a query from Deanda Lyne of the Family
History Center. A descendent had come
across the obituary for Emiline Green, widow of James N. Green,
died December 19, 1908, and wanted to know where this cemetery is
located.
This cemetery was previously unknown to
any of us concerned with this list, or the Cemetery Task Force. We examined the possibility that it might be
one of the known cemeteries in the area under a different name, but could find
no listing of Emiline Green. Later,
Deanda reported back to me via email, that she learned that years ago, when FPL
and/or Clay Electric ran their power lines, the cemetery was bulldozed.
That fate befell another cemetery in the
area, namely the Poor Farm Cemetery. Because that was a governmental institution,
interment records were kept, though somewhat haphazardly, and we are able to
have a fairly complete record of it.
With a community or private family cemetery, all too often they go the
way of Francis
Community Cemetery, Mays Cemetery, Jones Road, Taylor
Family, and others.
Anyone having any information about this
cemetery, location, internees, or anything at all, please contact either Deanda
Lyne at the Family History Center, fhc373095@bellsouth.net,
or me at Email.
Thank you,
Mary E. Murphy
