FRANCIS COMMUNITY CEMETERY (BLACK AND WHITE)

Here are two instances where your correspondent must post bad news.

These two cemeteries have been destroyed because of greed, and the fact that the neighbors and relatives of the internees did not speak up.  The official report turned into Tallahassee as part of the State Cemetery Task Force, says the following:

FRANCIS COMMUNITY (WHITE) CEMETERY, lies under the playground of Kelley Smith Elementary School.  Parcel #16-10-26-0000-0040-0000.  PALATKA QUAD.  N 29 o 38 026 W 81o 42.290.  (Destroyed).

FRANCIS COMMUNITY (BLACK) CEMETERY, lies under the paved parking lot of Sunrise Foods at the corner of HWY 20 and Round Lake Road.  Parcel #09-10-26-0000-0340-0110.  PALATKA QUAD.  N 29o 38.174 W 81o 42.235.  (Destroyed).

During the past couple of years, some family researchers have come across a few Death records for individuals living in the Francis area, which suggest that they were buried in one of the Francis cemeteries.  They were kind enough to send copies of those records to me for inclusion in the Project.  This list is compiled from the information that is on the death records, as well as additional information from the Putnam County Census Records,  the Putnam County Marriage Records, and the 1919 Putnam County Directory.

Many thanks for this information, goes to Ms. Ann Williams, Ms. Kim Wilcox, and Mr. Lon Sullivan.

This list is provided as a courtesy to researchers.  It's inclusion in no way implies that the people listed as living in Francis in 1919, were in fact buried in one of the destroyed cemeteries.  They may have moved elsewhere since the publication of the directory.
