ANNA BRYCE JOHNSON BURIAL SITE

Lies on property owned by Joseph I.  Corley, 2540 Sanford Avenue, Sanford FL 32773-5248.  Parcel #30-10-23-0000-0040-0010.  According to Mr. Corley, Anna Bryce Johnson was his great-grandmother.  She died in childbirth of a daughter, also named Anna, who married J. W.  Corley, the grandfather of Joseph T. Corley, the informant.  The widowed husband could not take care of his daughter, so the Bryce family of Atlanta, (Mr. Bryce was a judge) reared her.

[According to Marriage Book A Page 73,  F. A. Johnson and Anna Bryce were married 27 Sep. 1859.  MEM-H]

The property is adjoining the railroad right of way, in the corner of what used to be an orange grove.  This was a favorite spot for Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Johnson had her buried there because of her love for it.  Also Jill Johnson Bush of Hawthorne 352-481-2376, is a descendant of Anna Bryce Johnson, and has given us permission to enter the property to do the survey.  Both Jill Bush and Joseph Corley may be contacted for information.

Take HWY 20 west to Gordon Chapel Road.  Turn left and go approximately 6/10 of a mile to the Old Hawthorne Road (dirt road just across railroad).  Turn right and go 7/10 of a mile to an opening in a fence on the right.  Go through opening, cross power line easement and look for a trail with piles of trash.  Take trail north (a total of 330 feet from Old Hawthorne Road).  Trail will turn west.  Follow trail west approximately 350 feet.  Look for a wooden post next to a 4” PRM.  Turn right and follow trail slightly east of north for approximately 300 feet to grave site.  The grave has been fenced.  N 29o 35.725 W 82o 02.801.  HAWTHORNE QUAD.  (Neglected).
