OAK HILL CEMETERY WEST

Owned by the City Of Palatka, Parcel #11-10-26-0000-0160-0000.    It is located on the west side of Palm Avenue, north of Crill Avenue at the Old LINDA DRIVE-IN movie theater site.   Click HERE for a picture.  

The City purchased the site in 1993 for expansion, as Oak Hill Cemetery was rapidly filling up.   Originally named “Restlawn”, it officially became Oak Hill West, once the City annexed and rezoned the property.    [Palatka Daily News, November 16, 1993].   In May 2000, additional acreage was purchased and added to the cemetery as “Oak Hill West Addition”.   Parcel #11-10-26-0000-0242-0000.    [Putnam County Courier-Journal, January 3, 2001].   PALATKA QUAD  N 129^o 38.630 W 81^o 39.782.  (Maintained).

Because my back has started causing trouble, and has seriously curtailed my activities causing me to fall very behind in updating these listings, I applied on August 15, 2019 to the St. Johns River State College’s “Vikings Days of Service” for volunteer assistance for creating updated photographs of some of the cemeteries.  My application was accepted, and on Friday, September 13, 2019, we had at least eight stalwart volunteers, in addition to my husband, Lynn A. Hoffmann and myself.  I cannot thank these people enough for helping us.  There were several other projects to choose from that included air-conditioning.  Yet, these folks came out in the heat and walked around and photographed Oakhill West Cemetery, and knocked it out in about two hours. 

My most heartfelt thanks go to:  Chris Killmer, Dana Smith, Diane Pagnano, Donna Stanley, Holly Coulliette, Kenya Kelley, Marsha Smith, and Suzanne Kempke.  It seems like a couple of other people showed up that weren’t on the confirmed list.  If I have missed your name, please let me know, and I will certainly correct my list.

It will take me a little while as I name the photographs and add the names to the list.  If you keep checking this list, you will see several changes over the coming days as I add your contributions.  Again, I am very appreciative of your efforts.
